Introduction to Bindu, Space for Artists’

Bindu, space for artist became active from the year 2006; its work station located at Kupondol, Lalitpur, Nepal.

The story behind naming this organization Bindu is that every beginning starts from a single essential source- the point or ‘Bindu’. Bindu, Space for Artists’ is a gathering of artists committed in bringing together various aspects of fine arts to materialize a common ground for innovative art practitioners to share and develop imaginative concepts and visions. The conventional meaning of Bindu is found limited within the periphery of traditional meanings. Therefore, through our exercise we are in pursuit to redefine the meaning of Bindu itself.
Its first event happened in 2006 with the Mithila workshop at Janakpur, Nepal and the artworks created during this event was exhibited at Siddartha Art gallary, Kathmandu, Nepal and Kaya Gallary, Uttara, Bangladesh 2007.

Second event of Bindu was a great Collaborative workshop and a research merging the concepts and technique of folk and traditional art of Nepal, Bangladesh and Tibet. This event also commenced a workshop with school and college student which was support by ANA.

Then followed Little movement in town in 2008, which was the first performance art event in Nepal.

Later on, this organization continiously organized various significant art workshops and events such as  Monsoon printmaking workshop 2010, Britto Student Residency programme Nepal and Bangladesh 2011 collaboratewith Britto Art Trust, A Live Performance Art Event 2012, Printmaking workshop 2012 in collaboration with National Academy of Fine Art, Artist Residency Programme 2012 and Print making workshop to support second Kathmandu International Art Festivel 2012, Bindu artist residency 2012, Print Making Workshop in collaboration with Nepal Academy of Fine Arts 2012, Ankur Video art workshop 2013, Britto student residency program 2013, International Performance Art 2014, Engraving print making workshop in collaboration with Nepal Academy of Fine Arts 2014, 10 Minutes Performance Art 2014, Student Print Making Workshop and  Exhibition 2015, Live Performance Art 2015, Kathmandu international performance art festival 2016.

The contemporary world is emerging with new conscience that is developing with the newly found sense of individuality and search of freedom. In this process artists employing multiple mediums are working hand in hand with fellow local artists as well as are traveling various countries and cultures to formulate their visionary expressions. This pursuit has undoubtedly contributed in building up a collective understanding of the concept of universe and existence in general. Science, Art, Politics, Economics, Religion are intertwined today, indicating a greater picture, a bigger responsibility that mankind has to fulfill for the betterment of surroundings.

Bindu has been proceeding its activities through international and national collaborative workshop, exhibitions, interaction program, research and seminars.

We live in a world of differences. Our world is comprised of different perspective and attitudes. This is how mankind has perceived their surroundings and Bindu is here to celebrate all these differences by magnetizing them together in establishing a liberal space for the artists and art admirers.
